one-way day - a film made in 36 hours (2008)

No matter how bad your day is - there is always something much worse happening to somebody else at the same time.

The alarm clock rings, but an hour too late. It's the start of a new day that will bring one disaster after another to our protagonist. As another car driver is almost causing a rear-end collision, she almost ends up in a one-way street. Only seconds later she hears squealing tires and realises that the driver that almost crashed into her car has caused a severe accident ...

"Was it coincidence or a one-way street?" That was the given theme at the Instant36 film competition 2008, in which a film had to be created from scratch within only 36 hours.

Auf der Website www.fuelthechange.com wurde zu einem Werbespot-Wettbewerb zum Thema Biosprit (in den USA geläufig unter dem Namen Ethanol) aufgerufen.

Mit ein paar weiteren Filmprofis aus meinem Bekanntenkreis haben wir uns der Herausforderung gestellt, und das ist dabei herausgekommen:

Kurzdoku "Gastarbajteri nazaj doma" - Premiere auf der Diagonale 08, jetzt hier!

Der Kurzdokumentarfilm "Gastarbajteri nazaj doma" ("Gastarbeiter wieder zuhause", Länge: 20 Minuten) handelt von nach Slowenien heimgekehrten Gastarbeitern, die zumeist viele Jahre in Deutschland arbeiteten, jedoch immer von der Heimat träumten. In diesem Film erzählen sie von ihren Erfahrungen.

Der Film feierte auf der Diagonale 08 (1.-6. April 2008) in Graz seine erfolgreiche Premiere. Jetzt können Sie ihn auch hier sehen (mit englischen Untertiteln) - kostenlos!

Tirol Heute - Bericht online!

Dieser Bericht wurde am 3. April 2007 um 19:00 auf ORF2 in der Sendung "Tirol Heute" ausgestrahlt. Das Fünf-Minuten-Special enthält einen Ausschnitt (Zusammenschnitt) aus "Every Step You Take" sowie ein ziemlich langes Studiointerview mit Nino Leitner, der live während der Ausstrahlung im Studio Rede und Antwort stand!

Die Weltpremiere von "Every Step You Take" auf der Diagonale 07 war ein großer Erfolg! Beide Vorstellungen waren ausverkauft, und noch dazu wurde der Film unter die fünf beliebtesten Filme der Diagonale (also Finalisten um den Publikumspreis) gewählt!

Nino Leitners einstündiger Dokumentarfilm "Every Step You Take" über Videoüberwachung in Großbritannien feiert seine Weltpremiere auf der DIAGONALE 07 - FESTIVAL DES ÖSTERREICHISCHEN FILMS, in Graz, vom 19.-25. März 2007.

Der Film im Rahmen der DIAGONALE an folgenden Terminen gezeigt:

21. März um 12:00, und
23. März um 22:45

im Schubert Kino in Graz.

"Auszeit" gewinnt bei Shorts on Screen 07!

Nino hat den Preis für den besten Kurzfilm aus Tirol im Wettbewerb "Shorts on Screen 07" des ORF mit "Auszeit" gewonnen! Der Film wurde im Rahmen von Instant36 in 36 Stunden produziert, von der ersten Idee bis zum fertigen Film.

Begründung der Jury: "In einem fein ausgewogenen Rhythmus wird der Alltag dreier Protagonisten und deren Arbeitswelten parallel montiert, um rasant in einer Flucht aus eben diesem Alltag zu enden."

Alle Siegerfilme werden am Donnerstag, dem 22. März 2007 ab 22:50 als Teil des Programms "shorts and skirts - Die lange Nacht des kurzen Films" auf ORF1 gesendet, inklusive Kurzportraits ihrer Macher.

"Auszeit" und Ninos Kurzportrait können aber bereits hier und jetzt bewundert werden. Kommentare jederzeit gerne erwünscht!

WINNER Shorts On Screen 07 for Tirol !!! (short film contest by Austrian public television ORF)

This film was planned, shot and edited in only 36 hours for the Austrian 36 hours short film competition "Instant36" in 2006. Everything in this film was created in this time, even the music and sound - we were 16 people, 4 were exclusively working on sound and music.

Such competitions are always great fun, take the chance to take part in one if you get the chance to. I can only say that I enjoyed it very much and that we produced something much better than I originally expected we would be able to produce. I directed the film and knew nobody out of the whole crew except for one person before we started out, but it really paid off. See for yourself!

Künstler-Lektion

The proverb 'to shed light on something' gets a completely new meaning when Nino Leitner tries to teach himself and other artists for their future a short, but very important lesson made up entirely of light bulbs. Accompanied by music by Andreas Karre.

For the creation of this film, every letter of the alphabet was made up of light bulbs and filmed individually while the bulbs were switched on and off several times. Everything else has been done in post-production on the computer.

The phrases were taken from the German version of Keith Johnstone's book 'Impro; Improvisation and the Theatre'.

Mind the Bag

A mysterious, world-travelling courier picks up a bag in London to bring it to his customer in Salzburg. He does not yet have a clue which kind of surprise he holds for him at his destination ...

Constricted Sight

The topic of this short film, which was concepted and finalized in only two days, is our everyday “constricted sight“: We almost exclusively watch at screens nowadays, probably until our world becomes entirely rectangular.

PANTA

The first short created during Nino’s time at the University of Applied Sciences and Technology. It circles around the story of superstar Lena, who is fed up with her busy and public media life. When she wakes up one morning, the world is empty – not a single human soul seems to be left on earth, except for her. This is when she realizes for the first time how lucky she was in her former life ...

Wo, du fröhliche Weihnachtszeit?

Nino Leitner’s very first short film. It deals with today’s Christmas in a very ironic way. Created with iMovie 1.0 for a Christmas movie competition by Apple, the film was even honoured by being broadcast several times by the private channel “Tango TV“ in Luxemburg.

Nino Leitners allererster Kurzfilm. Er beleuchtet auf sehr ironische Art und Weise das Weihnachtsfest von heute. Mit iMovie 1.0 ursprünglich für einen von Apple ausgerufenen Weihnachtsfilm-Wettbewerb kreiert, wurde dem Filmchen sogar die Ehre zuteil, im luxemburgischen Privat-Sender „Tango TV“ mehrmals gespielt zu werden.

Hotchpotch - Kualala Lumpur

This is the first music video for the Austrian band "Hotchpotch". They won the Austrian Yamaha Band Contest in 2003 and released their first "real" studio album in 2005. You can find out more about the band clicking on the appropriate URL.

This video was shot in the Austrian town of Innsbruck, the band's and the director's hometown. Director Nino Leitner and his co-director Ivica Putnik came up with the idea of putting the band on various spots of the town Innsbruck, which is known for its mountainous placement in the "heart of the Alps", and the sports and tourism that come with it. This symbolizes the track's meaning that whereever the band is playing, it still feels almost the same - although it's still different everywhere because of the "vibes" the people give them.

Directors Nino Leitner and Ivica Putnik have shot this video in only three days, including 9 locations all over the town (albeit not all of them have been included). However, the post-production took much more time: multi-camera edits and especially the transitions were very time-consuming, but it paid off.

Hotchpotch - Kualudium Ratis
(Intro to the long video)

This intro has an oriental theme and was therefore realized with three professional belly dancers in front of a blue screen. It is intentionally simplistic and only serves as a "bonus" to the music video "Kualala Lumpur", which has a very different look. Yet still, in terms of music, both tracks complement each other on Hotpotch's first studio album "Bring It to the Boil!".

Any resemblance to iPod commercials is purely coincidental.

Urban Ego - Mrs. Brainshaker

A lonely, but crazily working young man is unexpectedly visited by a group of pretty girls, which keeps growing uncontrollably all the time. They mess up his appartment, and by this also his life.

This narrative music video for the Austrian pop band "Urban Ego" shows how somebody surprisingly finds his "Mrs. Brainshaker".

These are test commercials that were created for the "Viral Spot Award 2006", a competition arranged by the Austrian graphic design agency "Vorauer & friends". Nino created them together with his friend Stefan Fleig.The winners have not yet been chosen.

Es freut mich, bekannt geben zu können, dass unser Kurzfilm "Auszeit", bei dem ich Regie führen konnte, den Shorts on Screen Preis 2007 für Tirol gewonnen hat!

Ich finde, das ist eine besondere Auszeichnung, weil der Film in nur 36 Stunden im Rahmen des Wettbewerbes Instant36 (www.instant36.at) entstanden ist. Und dabei spielte dieses Kriterium ja bei der Auswahl des Shorts on Screen Gewinners gar keine Rolle!

So kann's gehen, wenn man 36 Stunden lang mit einem Team zusammenarbeitet, das man noch nie zuvor gesehen hat :-)

Preisverleihung wird auf der Diagonale 07 Ende März sein - bei der auch meine Diplom-Doku EVERY STEP YOU TAKE ihre Weltpremiere feiert.
